Semiconductor Market Outlook for 2025!

2025-10-31

In 2025, the semiconductor market will exhibit distinct characteristics in terms of scale growth, development in various segments, technological evolution, and changes in regional patterns. Here is a more comprehensive outlook:

The market size is steadily expanding: According to the forecast of the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics Organization (WSTS), the global semiconductor market size will reach 697.1 billion US dollars in 2025, an increase of approximately 11% compared to the previous year. In the second quarter of 2025, the global semiconductor industry sales increased by 18.8% year-on-year. The growth in the foreign market was particularly significant, with a 45.3% year-on-year increase. Although the growth rate in the Chinese market was slightly slower, it still had a 7.6% year-on-year increase.

Each specialized field has its own unique features.

AI-related chips: The global shipment of AI servers is expected to increase by 24.3% in 2025. North American cloud service providers are the main driving force. The production capacity of TSMC's CoWoS technology has increased from 34,000 wafers per month in the fourth quarter of 2024 to 70,000 wafers in the fourth quarter of 2025, to ensure the supply of high-performance computing chips such as NVIDIA's Blackwell GPU. At the same time, the demand for AI inference chips will exceed that for training chips in the second half of the year. After technological breakthroughs by domestic GPU manufacturers such as Huanwu and Haiguang Information, their market share is expected to significantly increase.

Automotive semiconductors: The global automotive semiconductor market is expected to reach 80 billion US dollars by 2025, with China accounting for over 40% of the share. As the penetration rate of new energy vehicles exceeds 50%, the value of semiconductors per vehicle has risen from 300 US dollars in 2020 to 800 US dollars. The shipment volume of automotive-grade IGBT modules has also increased by 60% year-on-year. Domestic manufacturers have made significant technological breakthroughs and increased their market share in areas such as silicon carbide substrates and in-vehicle AI chips.

Memory chips: The prices of DRAM and NAND Flash, after experiencing consecutive quarters of decline, are expected to rebound in the second half of 2025. Specifically, in the third quarter of 2025, the price of DDR4 in the DRAM sector increased by 0 - 5% compared to the previous quarter, the price of DDR5 increased by 3 - 8% compared to the previous quarter, the price of NAND Flash increased by 5 - 10% compared to the previous quarter, and the average price of Enterprise SSDs increased by up to 15%.

The advancement of technology has continued to deepen.

Advanced packaging technology continues to deepen. The global advanced packaging market size is expected to reach 45 billion US dollars in 2025, with China's share increasing from 12% in 2020 to 25%. Domestic enterprises have made breakthroughs in packaging materials and equipment. For instance, low-temperature bonding materials can reduce the interconnection temperature of chips from 250°C to 180°C, increasing the yield by 15%. Advanced packaging is also widely applied in AI chips, automotive electronics and other fields.

The third-generation semiconductors are steadily expanding: Materials such as silicon carbide and gallium nitride, which are part of the third-generation semiconductors, are being increasingly applied in power semiconductors. Some domestic enterprises have increased the yield of 8-inch SiC substrates to 85%, and the cost has decreased by 40% compared to silicon-based devices. They have successfully been applied in the electric drive systems of several automotive manufacturers.

Regional development has its own focuses.

The effectiveness of domestic substitution in China is remarkable: The domesticization rate of China's semiconductor industry chain has accelerated, especially in terms of equipment and materials. It is expected that by 2025, the domesticization rate of key equipment will increase from 18% to 35%. The domestic substitution of key materials such as electronic special gases and photoresists is also accelerating. Companies like CMG and North China Semiconductor have made significant technological breakthroughs and have received large-scale orders.

The Asia-Pacific market has become the growth driver: From the perspective of regional markets, the semiconductor market in the Asia-Pacific region performed exceptionally well in 2025. In the second quarter of 2025, the sales of the global semiconductor industry in foreign markets (mainly in the Asia-Pacific region and other areas) increased by 45.3% year-on-year, becoming an important driving force for the growth of the global semiconductor market.
